Winners, Losers and Predictions from UCL Quarter final draw.
Saying Roma will be an easy win for Barcelona will be an overstatement, but there is no doubt the cules are a superior team to the Giallorossi. Their last meeting was in the 2015/2016 group stage where Barça resoundingly defeated Roma with 7-2 aggregate (1-1,6-1). We are not expecting to see Barcelona repeat such dominance but we expect them to go through anyway. Barcelona got the best pick they possibly could have gotten.
Losers: Sevilla and Roma
Both underdogs, they would have been hoping to face each other as that would have given them a fighting chance into the semi-finals. As fate would have it, they got 2 of the most European Big boys. To be honest, there is little or no chance of seeing either of the two teams in the semi-finals. But they should have their heads high because they have performed, up until now, very well.
For the last 3 years, Spain has had at least 3 teams in the quarter finals but they always had two teams drawn against each other. But for a change, this year, we are going to be seeing three Spanish teams playing against teams of other countries; effectively giving a chance of having 3 teams in the semi finals (even though the chances of that happening is very low, because Bayern).
Loser and Winner: England
England has been waiting for a few years to be back at the forefront of European football and finally, they had a chance of having two teams in the semi-final, they were placed against each other. There have been side-talks of UEFA purposely not wanting English teams to flourish, I really don’t believe in such. On the positive side, England is assured a place in the semi-final which might not have happened if two teams were placed against heavyweights( even though you would not want to bet against them losing).
The draws are fine but they are not as mouth-watering as we would have loved. Two results are almost set in the stone and the City-Liverpool match is something we have seen this season already ,even though it would be exciting nevertheless. We have been waiting for A classico UCL match for a while now, it would have been perfect for this moment.
Barcelona to go through.
Bayern to go through.
Madrid to go through albeit difficultly.
And, Man City should based on the strength of a more compact system.
